Les EssentiElles

Les EssentiElles works to improve the quality of life of Francophone Yukon women. It does this by meeting their needs and representing their interests at the territorial and national levels.

They also:

  • help create solidarity between French, English and First Nations women in the Yukon;
  • work with Yukon and national organizations to improve women's conditions; and
  • provide resources to French women living in a minority setting.

Liard Aboriginal Women’s Society

The Liard Aboriginal Women’s Society (LAWS) is a non-profit, charitable, community-based Indigenous organization. It provides social development services to the Kaska Nation in the Yukon and northern British Columbia. Members of the society:

  • work to heal the legacy of physical and sexual abuse in residential schools;
  • serve the 5 Kaska communities: of Good Hope Lake, Fort Ware, Lower Post, Watson Lake and Ross River;
  • offer counselling and training and traditional healing programs; and
  • host a camp at Frances Lake where cultural activities take place.

Public Service Alliance of Canada's (PSAC) Whitehorse Regional Women’s Committee (RWC)

This committee provides advice and advocacy on regional concerns of women represented by the union.

Queer Yukon Society 

Queer Yukon Society is a community-led initiative. It has community centres across the Yukon. These centres offer safer spaces, resources, supports, online and in-person programming, and community connection to 2SLGBTQIA+ Yukoners and their loved ones.

The society:

  • advocates for the health, well-being, and human rights of 2SLGBTQIA+ Yukoners;
  • offers education and training to the broader community; and
  • organizes Pride celebrations across the territory.

Victoria Faulkner Women's Centre

This centre is a local non-government, non-profit organization. It offers programming, advocacy and support to Yukon women.

Whitehorse Aboriginal Women’s Circle

This is a non-profit, community-based society. It provides a platform for all Indigenous women to voice concerns and seek support and guidance from each another.

The board participates in community events that promote wellness and healing. The organizations holds meetings the 1st Thursday of every month.

Yukon Aboriginal Women's Council

The Yukon Aboriginal Women’s Council’s work:

  • advances the interests of women of Indigenous or Inuit ancestry in the Yukon including Status, Non-Status, Indigenous peoples and Metis;
  • supports and enforces the civil and human rights of all Indigenous women in the Yukon and Northern B.C.;
  • helps Indigenous women increase their feeling of adequacy and their sense of self through planning, developing and managing self-help projects;
  • encourages Indigenous women to assume a more positive and active part in developing skills to support their people;
  • promotes and aids in the development and preservation of Indigenous culture, arts and handicrafts; and
  • remains non-partisan in its activities and dealings with governments and political parties of Canada.
