Recognizing that Yukoners across the territory contribute to community safety, Minister of Justice Tracy-Anne McPhee is encouraging Yukoners to nominate those who contribute to safer Yukon communities for the Minister of Justice Community Safety Award.
The nomination period for the 2024 Community Safety Awards is open now. Nominations will be accepted until August 15, 2024, at 11:59 pm. Successful recipients will be presented with their awards at a ceremony in November 2024.
Those selected are noted to have made a significant difference in the lives of Yukoners, either through their jobs or as volunteers. Past award nominees have included youth, volunteers, first responders, law enforcement officers and community groups or programs.
The Community Safety Awards Nominating Committee will review nominations. More information on the nomination process can be found online at Yukon.ca/community-safety-awards.
Yukoners go above and beyond every day to support each other; mentoring youth, helping vulnerable people or supporting victims of crime. By shining a spotlight on these important initiatives and dedicated community members, these awards help to improve public and community safety by spreading awareness of successful initiatives and encouraging the recipients, nominees and the public to work toward safer communities. If you know someone who works hard to promote the safety of their community and build safer and stronger communities in the Yukon, I encourage you to nominate them for a Community Safety Award.
-
The Community Safety Awards were created in 2012 in response to Sharing Common Ground: A Review of Yukon’s Police Force, a 2010 report that highlighted a need to recognize the contributions of Yukoners who promote community safety.
-
Community Safety Awards are presented in the following categories: youth; lifetime contribution to community safety; outstanding contribution to community safety; outstanding community policing; mentorship; bridge building; and outstanding project or team, volunteer and first response.

Nominations need not specify a category for award. If no category is included in the nomination, the nomination committee will select the appropriate category based on the information provided.
