The Government of Yukon has released a feasibility study exploring the potential establishment of a varsity sport program that is inclusive of First Nations participation opportunities and enables Yukon University to offer an attractive and enriching post-secondary student experience.
This study was collaboratively commissioned by the departments of Education and Economic Development, in partnership with Yukon University, the Aboriginal Sport Circle and Sport Yukon. The findings of this study are now accessible on Yukon.ca.
The results and recommendations of the feasibility study are currently under review.
The Government of Yukon would like to thank the Steering Committee members – Yukon University, the Aboriginal Sport Circle and Sport Yukon – for their collaboration on this study.
I want to extend my appreciation to our partners on the Steering Committee and everyone who has been involved in this process so far, as we explore how to elevate Yukon’s reputation as an academic and economic jurisdiction through sport. We’ll continue to consider how we can best invest in Yukon’s student experience for learners at home and those coming to the territory from across Canada and beyond.
We look forward to continuing our work with Yukon University, which plays a pivotal role in both ensuring Yukoners can access higher learning close to home and attracting students from far and wide who contribute to our growing communities. We also appreciate our collaborative relationships with the Aboriginal Sport Circle and Sport Yukon, with appreciation of how sports and recreation contribute to the holistic wellbeing of learners of all ages.
