Government of Yukon and partners to meet at Housing Summit 2022

The Government of Yukon will host the Housing Summit 2022 in collaboration with community housing partners on October 4, 2022.

This year’s summit focus is on housing vulnerable individuals, showcasing innovative housing solutions within the Yukon and Canada, and advancing proposed actions in response to recommendations from the 2022 Office of the Auditor General report on Housing in the Yukon.

The summit will bring together representatives from municipal, First Nations and territorial governments, as well as private sector and non-governmental housing representatives to strengthen the territorial approach to housing vulnerable Yukoners. Key highlights of the summit include:

  • a panel discussion to enhance role clarity amongst housing partners;
  • breakout sessions to solicit feedback on proposed actions of the 2022 Office of the Auditor General report;
  • an overview of data collection and use to inform territory-wide housing priorities; and
  • opportunities to learn from successful supportive housing projects.

Results from the summit will be used to support a finalized action plan that will be implemented this fall.

October 4 coincides with the Sisters in Spirit event that honours Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls and their families in the Yukon and Northern British Columbia. Housing plays an important role in this conversation. In recognition of this occasion Summit participants will have the opportunity to attend the Sisters in Spirit event as part of the day’s agenda.

As committed, we are delivering on a follow up Housing Summit to bring forward innovative ideas, partnerships and housing solutions that will help us create more safe and affordable homes for Yukoners. No government or organization alone can solve housing needs in the Yukon and we must continue to work together to provide more homes for Yukon families. I am looking forward to conversations with our community housing partners and Yukoners on how we can better work together to develop concrete actions that will help us meet housing needs in the territory.

Minister of Yukon Housing Corporation Ranj Pillai

The path to more safe and affordable homes for Yukon families is through partnerships. This Summit is an essential part of that work and these relationships and conversations will lead us to innovative solutions. Thank you to all of our community partners as we strive to increase places that are safe, affordable and comfortable to call home.

Minister of Health and Social Service Tracy-Anne McPhee
