The Government of Yukon is donating $25,000 to the Canadian Red Cross to support relief, recovery, and resiliency efforts in response to the fires in Alberta, which has 76 active fires and close to 30,000 people displaced.
Twenty-one wildland fire personnel were also deployed to Alberta earlier this week.
The Government of Yukon continues to monitor and assess the fire and flood situation here at home and encourages all Yukoners to visit Yukon.ca/emergencies to learn how they can prepare for potential emergencies.
As temperatures increase this week, it is a reminder for Yukoners to be prepared for possible fire and flood risks. We encourage everyone to have a 72-hour kit containing essential items like food, water, and medication, and to learn about FireSmarting, which can help safeguard homes from wildfires. We extend our heartfelt sympathy to those affected by the wildfires in Alberta and will continue to help in any way we can.
