Government of Yukon signs Letter of Intent with the Republic of the Philippines

The Government of Yukon and the Government of the Philippines have signed a letter of intent to establish a framework to undertake negotiations on immigration programming and pursue cooperation on human resource development between the Philippines and Yukon.

The negotiations will address a number of areas, including arrangements to match Filipino workers with employment opportunities in Yukon’s labour market under the Yukon Nominee Program; enhancing the system for the recruitment, protection, and placement of Filipino workers to be employed in Yukon; and a public information campaign for the Yukon Nominee Program.

The letter of intent was signed by Minister of Economic Development Ranj Pillai and Philippine Secretary of Labour and Employment Silvestre Bello. The Yukon and Philippine governments will now work together towards a Memorandum of Understanding for enhancing the recruitment system for Filipino workers in Yukon.

I would like to thank Secretary Bello for travelling this long way and seeking deeper cooperation between the Philippines and Yukon. We value the Filipino community and the cultural and economic contributions of its members to the territory. These negotiations will make it easier for Filipinos to come to Yukon while reducing costs and red tape for employers.

Minister of Economic Development Ranj Pillai
