Minister of Women and Gender Equity Directorate Jeanie McLean and Minister of Health and Social Services Tracy-Anne McPhee have issued the following statement:
“We invite all Yukoners to join us in celebrating the start of Pride Season. Throughout Pride Season, there are many opportunities to recognize the contributions of the 2SLGBTQIA+ community to society and raise awareness of the barriers and discrimination 2SLGBTQIA+ people continue to face. It is also an opportunity to learn how to be an ally, and to explore how we can challenge existing biases and prejudice. Pride Season has become a reminder of the decades of advocacy done by the 2SLGBTQIA+ community and the work that remains ahead.
“The progress that we have achieved in the Yukon is a result of the hard work and advocacy of those at the forefront: Gender and Sexuality Alliances, Gay-Straight Alliances, Queer Yukon Society, All Genders Yukon Society, and Yukon Queer Film Alliance along with their incredible allies and supporters.
“Our government is dedicated to ongoing efforts to ensure that 2SLGBTQIA+ Yukoners to feel acknowledged and supported, not just during Pride celebrations, but every single day. This commitment extends to leading initiatives that champion the rights and equity of the 2SLGBTQIA+ community across the territory.
“As we embrace this year's Pride Season, let's amplify the voices of the 2SLGBTQIA+ community and raise awareness about the challenges they face. Together, we can create a future where 2SLGBTQIA+ Yukoners not only feel safe and respected, but also celebrated, visible and represented in all aspects of society.”
