The Little Salmon/Carmacks First Nation’s Water Treatment Plant Upgrades are now complete

The Government of Yukon has completed extensive renovations to the Little Salmon/Carmacks First Nation’s water treatment plant. These upgrades ensure that critical infrastructure is in place to access clean drinking water.

The renovations include electrical upgrades, new piping, upgraded filtration and a new overhead pump for filling water delivery trucks. The work was managed by the Government of Yukon Infrastructure Development Branch. The water treatment facility is owned and operated by Little Salmon/Carmacks First Nation.

This project is made possible through multiple governments investing in clean drinking water. The Government of Yukon's contribution of $706,084 was complemented by additional funding from the Government of Canada and the Little Salmon/Carmacks First Nation. Through the Green Infrastructure Stream of the Investing in Canada Infrastructure Program, the Government of Canada invested $1,425,675, while the Little Salmon/Carmacks First Nation contributed $412,480.

This project supports the Government of Yukon’s ongoing commitment to ensuring clean drinking water for all Yukoners.

This investment makes possible the invisible but critical infrastructure the Yukon needs for safe drinking water. It’s these kinds of projects that make a real difference in the health and wellbeing of communities. Our government is grateful to the Government of Canada and Little/Salmon Carmacks First Nation for their partnership.

Minister of Community Services Richard Mostyn

The importance of clean water for small, rural communities cannot be overstated. Sound, state-of-the-art water infrastructure is key to ensuring that access.  I am proud of the work that the Little Salmon Carmacks First Nation and the Yukon Government have undergone, along with support by the Government of Canada, to ensure success for these impressive renovations. These vital upgrades will benefit the Little Salmon Carmacks First Nation, enhancing the health and safety of the entire community. Mussi Cho to everyone who helped ensure this success. I look forward to seeing the positive impacts of another important infrastructure project.
