The Government of Yukon is committed to improving access to housing across the territory and is pleased to announce that two newly constructed homes in Faro are now available for Yukon Housing Corporation tenants.
The duplex is located at 362 Dawson Drive. The old unit was demolished in 2022 as it was not economically feasible to repair. What was once a single-family house now has two 973-square-foot accessible two-bedroom, one-bathroom units. These units exceed energy efficiency ratings by 35 per cent of National Energy Building Code requirements. Yukon Housing Corporation will own and operate these homes as part of the Rent-Geared-to-Income program. This program assists Yukoners in need of affordable, suitable and accessible housing.
Local company SPK Home Construction LTD designed and built the units for a total cost of $1.3 million. Funding for this project was provided through Yukon Housing Corporation’s five-year capital plan for the replacement of aged-out units.
This new duplex will help alleviate the pressures on affordable housing options available to Faro community members and enable tenants to create a sense of home in their community.
The peace of mind that comes with having a stable home is invaluable. This is why our government is pleased to provide new energy-efficient homes that will safely and securely house Yukoners for many years to come. The new duplex will help many community members in Faro call this building home in the years to come.
