Minister of Health and Social Services Tracy-Anne McPhee has announced a new $6 million package of retention and signing bonuses for nurses in the Yukon.
The new package includes bonuses over the next two years for Registered Nurses (RNs), Nurse Practitioners (NPs) and Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs) working for the Yukon government.
The package includes:
- An immediate bonus of $15,000 for RNs and NPs, and $8,000 for LPNs.
- A retention bonus starting on April 1, 2023, of $15,000 for RNs and NPS, and $8,000 for LPNs.
- A signing bonus of $7,500 for new RNs and NPs, and $4,500 for LPNs.
- A $10,000 bonus for Primary Care Nurses working in Yukon communities.
- A $10,000 bonus for Primary Care Nurses in Charge working in Yukon communities.
- Reimbursement of exam fees for new nursing graduates hired by the Yukon government.
The Yukon government and the Yukon Employees’ Union reached an agreement on the new bonus package to recognize the work of the Yukon’s dedicated nurses and incentivize new nursing hires in the territory. This will also help address nursing turnover and high vacancy rates in community nursing.
Nurses play a critical role in the territory’s health care system and we are pleased to provide new bonuses to support them and recognize their dedication to our communities. These new bonuses will help retain our valued nurses and make the Yukon more competitive in recruiting and retaining nurses in a very challenging labour market.
