Statement from Minister of Health and Social Services Tracy-Anne McPhee on National Suicide Prevention Week

Minister of Health and Social Services Tracy-Anne McPhee has issued the following statement:

“Sunday marked the beginning of National Suicide Prevention Week, an opportunity to draw our collective attention to a deeply pressing and pervasive issue. Suicide is more than a personal tragedy; it is a community crisis that impacts families, circles of friends, communities, and the very fabric of our society. People who die by suicide are more than just a statistic – they are our loved ones, each with their unique stories and unfulfilled dreams. Each death is a reminder that our work in suicide prevention remains vital and ongoing.

“This year, the theme of National Suicide Prevention Week is ‘Creating Hope Through Action’. It reflects the empowering belief that each of us has a role to play in preventing suicide. It is a call for awareness and understanding, urging us to reach out to those who are struggling, to foster connections and to create environments steeped in hope and resilience for everyone in our communities.

“As we commemorate this National Suicide Prevention Week, I extend my deepest sympathies to those who have lost loved ones to suicide. It is a loss that is deeply felt and shared by the entire territory. To those who are struggling, know that you are not alone. We are here with you, walking this path together. You are valuable, and there are resources available to support you. Reach out now, and do not hesitate to utilize services such as:
