Statement from Minister of Justice Tracy-Anne McPhee on a serious incident involving the RCMP

Minister of Justice Tracy-Anne McPhee has issued the following statement:

“A critical incident occurred on the evening of September 28, 2022, involving the RCMP in Whitehorse. We have learned that a member of the Yukon RCMP was shot and sustained serious injuries in the line of duty. A suspect was also shot and sustained serious injuries.

“The investigation into this critical incident continues. The Government of Yukon has actioned the Alberta Serious Incident Response Team, who independently and objectively investigate incidents involving police that have resulted in serious injury or death to any person.

“Our government supports the RCMP in the important work they do.

“I express my sincere thanks to all members of the RCMP 'M' Division and to the officers from British Columbia and Northwest Territories for their professionalism and dedication during this critical incident.”
