Statement from Minister McLean welcoming students and staff back to school

Minister of Education Jeanie McLean has issued the following statement:

“As summer break ends and the new school year begins, we wish all Yukon students a school year filled with high spirits and meaningful learning. From our youngest learners taking their first steps into kindergarten to the Grade 12s nearing high school completion, we encourage all students to embrace curiosity and enjoy the unique learning opportunities offered in Yukon schools.

“Back to school is a significant time of year not only for students, but for the whole family. Parents and guardians play a pivotal role in shaping the future of our youth by fostering a community rich in knowledge and opportunities for growth. I extend my gratitude to parents and guardians for their dedication and commitment to their children's education.

“We want to acknowledge the Yukon’s exceptional educators who continuously strive to provide high quality education to students throughout the territory. We also recognize the devoted school support staff that help ensure clean and safe school grounds for everyone.

“As students head back to school, we remind all Yukoners to be cautious and mindful of their surroundings when driving through school zones. Additionally, we ask those driving on bus routes to be alert of frequently stopping buses and watchful of students along the side of the road.

“Have a safe and enriching school year, Yukoners!"
