Statement from Minister Streicker on International Archaeology Day

Minister of Tourism and Culture John Streicker has issued the following statement:

“Every year on the third Saturday in October, International Archaeology Day is celebrated by archaeological organizations around the world. This initiative honours the vital role archaeology plays in illuminating our past and guiding our future.

“On Saturday, October 21, at 1 pm, Yukoners of all ages are invited to celebrate International Archaeology Day at the Yukon Beringia Interpretive Centre. Attendees will enjoy a virtual lecture by Dr. Emily Lindsey from the La Brea Tarpits and Museum, an archaeology-themed movie, an interactive activity and refreshments. Admission to this event is free of charge.

“This event is a collaboration between Long Ago Yukon and the Yukon Beringia Interpretive Centre. Every year, International Archaeology Day marks the beginning of Long Ago Yukon’s popular lecture series. Throughout the winter, they host lectures on topics related to anthropology, archaeology and paleontology at the Beringia Centre. “International Archaeology Day – can you dig it!”
