Statement from Premier Pillai and Minister Mostyn on the graduates of the Yukon First Nations Wildfire Warrior Program

Premier and Minister of Economic Development Ranj Pillai and Minister of Community Services Richard Mostyn have issued the following statement:

“On behalf of the Government of Yukon, we would like to congratulate the most recent Yukon First Nations Wildfire Warrior Program graduates, who completed their course today. Over the past two weeks, this group of graduates has demonstrated great initiative and strength of character by taking this course and achieving their certificates. These participants have gained new skills that will help them advance professionally and become even greater role models in their respective communities.

“For those unfamiliar with the program, Yukon First Nations Wildfire and the Government of Yukon launched the Warrior Program with the purpose of providing First Nations youth with the skills and experience they need to reach their goals and enter the workforce. The curriculum includes:

  • First Nations ways of knowing, doing, being and learning;
  • the four pillars of Yukon First Nations Wildfire’s Resilience, Healing and Training Program:
    • financial literacy;
    • diversity training;
    • traditional land-based healing; and
    • traditional land management;
  • skills for success;
  • ways to achieve and maintain mental and physical health; and
  • current and future life planning.

“Thank you to the instructors for all your work in making sure this program is a meaningful experience for all involved. To all the participants, we commend you for your efforts and commitment throughout the course. By taking on the Warrior Program you have chosen to advance your skills and knowledge to greater heights and that is admirable.

“We look forward to seeing the success you will achieve and the ways in which you bolster your communities.”
