Premier Ranj Pillai has issued the following statement:
“Canada Day is an opportunity to celebrate our country and everyone who calls it home.
“It is a time to gather together and celebrate the culture and values that defines our country at home and abroad, while also reflecting on aspects of our history that continue to challenge us today. By recognizing these realities, we strengthen our commitment to creating a more inclusive and fair society for all.
“Generation after generation, we have proven this ability to progress as a country and move forward towards advancing the values that we all hold close to heart.
“Let us embrace our ability to reflect and celebrate our nation as a symbol of diversity and inclusivity. Our differences make us stronger, and by respecting one another, we can build a brighter future for all.
“I am elated and honoured to be part of the swearing in ceremony at the S.S Klondike tomorrow as we welcome new Canadians. This event and holiday reminds us that the Yukon and Canada are growing and are only made better by our collective contributions.
“While enjoying Canada Day festivities, I remind everyone to prioritize safety and exercise caution while having fun. Whether engaging in outdoor activities or gathering with loved ones, let us be mindful of fire prevention and general safety measures.
“On this special day, let us be grateful for all that we have and work towards a Canada defined by compassion, equity and opportunities for all.
“Happy Canada Day, Yukon!”
