Statement from Premier Pillai on Christmas

Premier Pillai has issued the following statement:

“The Christmas season means different things to different people, but one thing is universal: this season is one of reflection, generosity and care for friends, neighbours and loved ones.

“During this season of kindness, let's pause to consider the past year and appreciate the memories, moments and connections that have contributed to our lives. As we reflect, let's also consider our hopes of peace for the future.

“As we enjoy the festivities, let's also take a moment to appreciate the significance of Christmas, particularly to the Christian community. For many, the birth of Jesus Christ is a powerful symbol of love and hope, adding a deeper layer of meaning to the season.

“This spirit of warmth and kindness, which defines us as Yukoners, grows even stronger in the days leading up to Christmas, with countless acts of kindness, generosity and goodwill happening across the territory. A heartfelt thank you to all those who have volunteered their time or offered assistance to those in need.

“Christmas in the Yukon is a magical time of year, with celebrations as diverse as the Yukon itself. There’s the joy of gathering with family and friends, the excitement of decorating a tree,  the camaraderie of gathering for the Noche Buena and the Sviata Vecheria, the quirkiness of the Dawson City Boat Parade, the humour brought by Garbage Truck Santa, the deliciousness of the Bûche de Noël and the sense of community gained from volunteering with one of our many NGOs makes Christmas in the Yukon unlike anywhere else in the world.

“To all in the Yukon who celebrate, Merry Christmas! Whether you're gathering with family, friends or taking some time for yourself, please remember to do so safely. If you’re travelling, plan ahead and stay informed about local conditions. Be responsible, be cautious on the roads and, as always, look out for one another.

“Merry Christmas to all and to all a good night!”
