Statement from Premier Pillai on Filipino Heritage Month

Premier Ranj Pillai has released the following statement:

I am delighted to extend my warmest wishes to the Filipino community in the Yukon as we celebrate Filipino Heritage Month.

“Filipinos are the largest immigrant group in the Yukon, making up about 21 per cent of the Yukon’s immigrant population. Filipino Heritage Month offers an excellent opportunity to honour Filipino culture, traditions and values that add to the diversity of the territory.

“From the annual Christmas lights decorating contest hosted by the Canadian Filipino Association of the Yukon to the first Filipino fiesta last summer, the Filipino community actively engages with all Yukoners to share traditions and bring people together. It is through these exchanges and interactions that we learn from one another and grow together as a community.

“I extend my deepest appreciation to the Filipino community for their outstanding contributions to our territory. Your resilience, passion and dedication inspire us all. May this month of celebration be filled with joy, cultural pride and a renewed commitment to foster an inclusive and harmonious Yukon.

“I encourage all Yukoners to participate in the various events and activities organized during Filipino Heritage Month. Together we can build bridges of friendship and understanding that transcend borders and unite us as one Yukon family.
