Statement from Premier Pillai on Orthodox Christmas and Orthodox New Year celebrations

Premier Pillai has issued the following statement:

“As the Orthodox Christian community gathers to celebrate Orthodox Christmas and New Year, I extend my warmest wishes to all Orthodox Yukoners who observe these significant moments of reflection and renewal.

“Orthodox Christmas, observed on January 7, is a time when millions of Orthodox Christians around the world commemorate the birth of Jesus Christ. It is a moment of spiritual importance, marked by prayer, reflection and unity. The Orthodox New Year follows closely on January 14, bringing with it the promise of new beginnings and opportunities.

“As we bid farewell to the old year and welcome the new, it is a time to reflect on the achievements and challenges of the past and to set our sights on building a better future.

“When joining our Orthodox Christian family and friends in celebration, let us also honour this time by renewing our commitment to building a community that values compassion, justice and equality for all.

“Wishing you all a joyous Orthodox Christmas and a prosperous Orthodox New Year!”
