Premier Ranj Pillai has released the following statement:
“This evening at sundown, Jewish people in Whitehorse and around the world will gather with family, friends, and community members for the Passover Seder, or ritual feast, retelling the story of the Exodus from Egypt.
“Passover is a reminder of the triumph of good over evil, the importance of freedom and the benefits of working together as a community during challenging times.
“For the next eight days, Jewish people will commemorate their ancestors’ liberation from slavery in Egypt and reflect on the perseverance of Jewish people who have faced persecution throughout history.
“The Yukon has a small but vibrant Jewish population, represented by the Jewish Cultural Society of Yukon. I am proud to see a variety of cultural backgrounds and religious beliefs represented across our territory.
“On behalf of my family and the Government of Yukon, I wish peace and good health to everyone celebrating Passover here in the Yukon and around the world.
“Chag Pesach Sameach!”
