Premier Ranj Pillai has issued the following statement:
“Today I join the Yukon’s Jewish community and Jewish people around the world in solemnly marking the observance of Tisha B’Av, an annual Jewish fast day that commemorates several tragic events that have befallen Jewish people throughout the ages.
“Tisha B’Av is known as the saddest day in the Jewish calendar and is a day that is said to be destined for tragedy. Today, let us all take a moment to stand in solidarity with the Jewish community, recognizing their resilience and the enduring strength of their faith, and reaffirm our commitment to fostering an inclusive Yukon where people of all backgrounds can live, worship and thrive without fear of persecution or prejudice.
“Whitehorse has a small but vibrant Jewish population that makes up a key part of our cultural fabric. I wish members of the Jewish community here in the Yukon and around the world an easy and meaningful fast.”
