Premier Pillai has issued the following statement:
“Today I invite Yukoners and Canadians to commemorate International Holocaust Remembrance Day. The date marks the anniversary of the liberation of the Nazi Concentration Camp of Auschwitz-Birkenau by Soviet troops on January 27, 1945.
“We use this day to honour the millions of people who have lost their lives as a result of intolerance and discrimination during the Holocaust. Our government continues to be reminded of the importance of standing up to hate and discrimination and we are committed to countering antisemitism, racism and other forms of intolerance that may lead to group-targeted violence.
“Today our government is participating in a global campaign and we’re illuminating the sign of the Jim Smith Building in Whitehorse to mark International Holocaust Remembrance Day. Join us in remembering the tragedies of that past so that they may never be repeated.”
