Yukon firefighters meet in Dawson for training conference

You can never be too prepared for an emergency. That’s why last week, firefighters from across the Yukon came together to learn and train at the Fire Rescue Yukon 2024 Conference, organized by the Association of Yukon Fire Chiefs (AYFC), took place August 22 to 24 in Dawson.

The Yukon Fire Marshal’s Office is a lead sponsor and supporter of this annual event, which is attended by members of volunteer and municipal fire departments and fire services. This year’s conference hosted presenters and trainers from British Columbia and Ontario. The conference is open to all firefighters and free to attend.

The agenda included presentations by the Yukon Fire Marshal’s Office and the National Fire Protection Association on current topics, elections for the AYFC. The conference also hosted two hands-on training days with sessions on entering and searching houses, ladder and hose deployment and auto extrication.

The Government of Yukon appreciates the hard work of all of the territory’s firefighters and we’re pleased to support this annual event that brings together members of fire services from across the territory to train together and share best practices. Together we are building healthy and safe communities across the Yukon.
