The Government of Yukon and the Alzheimer’s Society of British Columbia have partnered to launch the First Link® Yukon Dementia Helpline to support Yukoners on their journey with dementia. This service is available to Yukoners across the territory as part of comprehensive support for seniors and caregivers in response to recommendations from the Putting People First report and the Aging in Place action plan.
The Alzheimer Society of B.C.’s First Link® Yukon Dementia Helpline is for anyone living with dementia or caring for someone who is, whether personally or professionally. Society staff provide care and support to people living with dementia and their family members while facing challenges that dementia brings, from diagnosis – or before – to end of life. Services that the helpline provides include, but are not limited to, general information about dementia, resources available to communities or support groups that are available.
Yukoners can reach the helpline by calling the toll-free number: 1-888-852-2579, available from Monday to Friday (10 am to 8 pm) to access help and guidance. All calls are confidential.
Today is World Alzheimer's Day, an opportunity to raise awareness and challenge the stigma around Alzheimer's disease and other dementia. Our government is proud to partner with the Alzheimer’s Society of British Columbia to launch the First Link® Yukon Dementia Helpline. Whether you are living with this illness or caring for someone who is, dementia can be a challenging journey to navigate. The First Link® Yukon Dementia Helpline will be an important resource to support Yukoners with resources, information and community.
If you or someone you know in the Yukon is living with dementia or caring for a person living with the disease, you are not alone. We are here to support you to build the confidence and skills to navigate the dementia journey.
