Continuing with his commitment to engage bilaterally with municipal and First Nations leadership about the issues important to their communities, Premier Ranj Pillai met with the Mayor and councillors from the Village of Haines Junction and leadership from Champagne and Aishihik First Nations (CAFN) during a recent trip to Haines Junction (Dakwäkäda).

Government exploring feasibility of varsity sport program

The Government of Yukon has released a feasibility study exploring the potential establishment of a varsity sport program that is inclusive of First Nations participation opportunities and enables Yukon University to offer an attractive and enriching post-secondary student experience.

Premier Ranj Pillai has issued the following statement:

Whistle Bend Green Street construction underway

Construction is beginning on Green Streets in Whitehorse’s Whistle Bend neighbourhood and landscaping will follow. Green streets are a multi-use trail system free of vehicle traffic, enabling neighbours to gather, play and connect.

Work has begun on the Green Street between Sadie and Luella lanes as well as the Green Street between Chance and Scotia lanes by reducing the paved paths to three metres wide, reflecting what the City of Whitehorse heard during their public input sessions in October 2022.

Families can now confirm enrolment interest for the new Whistle Bend Elementary School

The first new elementary school to be built in Whitehorse in more than 20 years, Whistle Bend Elementary School, will welcome students in August 2024 for the 2024–25 school year. Planning work for the opening of the school is ongoing and families living in the Whistle Bend Elementary School attendance area can now confirm their enrolment interest with an online form.

Government of Yukon partners with Government of Canada and City of Dawson to address housing demand and neighbourhood sustainability

This is a joint news release between the Government of Yukon, the Government of Canada and the City of Dawson.

The Government of Canada, the Government of Yukon and the City of Dawson are partnering on the development of five new residential building lots and returning services to many existing properties in Dawson’s North End.
