Minister of Health and Social Services Tracy-Anne McPhee has issued the following statement:

“Today is World Elder Abuse Awareness Day, an opportunity to raise awareness, to improve the safety and well-being of seniors and Elders and to check in on our parents, grandparents, neighbours and friends.

“The theme this year is ‘Closing the Circle: Addressing Gender-Based Violence (GBV) in Older Age Policy, Law and Evidence-based Responses’. The goal is to emphasize that we all have a vital role to play in protecting the rights of older persons.

Keeping with the Yukon government’s commitment to working in partnership with Yukon First Nations and being there for Yukoners in times of crisis, the Government of Yukon and Yukon First Nations have renewed three-year agreements for managing wildfire in the territory. These agreements outline hiring procedures for initial attack firefighters across the Yukon.

The Government of Yukon has published a “What We Heard” report outlining feedback from  stakeholders regarding how funds generated by the Government of Canada's Output-Based Pricing System (OBPS) can be reinvested into a carbon rebate program.

The OBPS, a component of the federal carbon pollution pricing system, was designed to lower emissions while maintaining the competitive edge of energy-intensive and trade-exposed industries.

In Dawson City yesterday, Tr’ondëk Hwëch’in Government and the Government of Yukon signed a Memorandum of Understanding that provides a framework for both governments to collaborate on the implementation and delivery of child and family services for Tr'ondëk Hwëch'in Citizens.

The Government of Yukon has released a What We Heard report highlighting feedback from Yukoners and stakeholders regarding areas of success, potential improvements and future actions to enhance access to French-language services and information.

On June 1, the Government of Yukon and the Teslin Tlingit Council held an event to commemorate the signing of a cooperation agreement between Teslin Tlingit Council and the Government of Yukon, which provides the community with additional supports through the work of the Safer Communities and Neighbourhoods (SCAN) Unit.

The Government of Yukon recognizes the importance of honouring the territory's history using an approach that honours the enduring presence of Indigenous peoples since time immemorial, while also commemorating the pivotal moments that shaped Yukon's role in joining the Confederation of Canada.

A special sitting of the Yukon Legislative Assembly was held in Dawson City today to commemorate the Yukon’s 125^th anniversary. It was June 13, 1898, that this land separated from the Northwest Territories and joined Confederation as the Yukon Territory.

The Community Development Fund has awarded $1,757,704 in funding towards 22 community projects across the Yukon. These projects contribute economic, cultural and social benefits to their communities by providing Yukoners across the territory with invaluable opportunities and resources.

The Government of Yukon recognizes the importance of having access to affordable, robust and dependable internet for Yukoners. For the past number of years the Xplore satellite service, formerly Xplornet, has provided internet access for more than 280 rural Yukoners.

Effective September 2023, Xplore internet services will no longer be available. It is likely that customers may experience connectivity issues prior to this date.

Rural Yukoners can secure uninterrupted internet access by proactively exploring alternative service providers.
