Purpose of the trip
Minister McPhee and her Ministerial Advisor travelled to Edinburgh, Scotland to attend meetings related to rural health care, justice and other shared priorities. Minister McPhee met with the Honorable Michael Matheson, Cabinet Secretary for National Health Service Recovery, Health and Social Care, to discuss shared experiences and challenges in health care, such as retention of health care workers and delivery of care in rural communities. The minister also met with the Royal College of Surgeons and Scottish Government officials to discuss the remote and rural workforce challenges, mental health and wellbeing in rural communities, recruitment and retention and access to health services in rural communities. Minister McPhee met with members of the Convention of Scottish Local Authorities and Fairer Scotland to discuss Period Dignity legislation and implementation and with Scottish Government policy officials to discuss the implementation of the Baby Box project. Minister McPhee also met with the Honorable Angela Constance, Cabinet Secretary for Justice and Home Affairs, to discuss common social justice issues, transitional housing, prevention and early intervention, as well as bail reform. Minister met with the Honorable Elena Whitman, Minister for Drug and Alcohol Policy, to discuss drug policy including destigmatizing naloxone. Minister McPhee also met with stakeholders to discuss opportunities for tourism between Scotland and the Yukon, including the new Calgary - Edinburgh flight route.
