A lot happened in 2022 for the Yukon Green Infrastructure Program!

As we head into 2023, it’s important to reflect on our achievements and lessons learned during last year. Every year, our branch captures the progress on climate change actions in our annual report. We've captured some highlights below.

Elijah Smith Elementary School biomass system

Construction is well underway. The project’s on track for completion in spring 2023. We're testing out a new approach to project delivery: the contractors who designed and built the system will also be supporting its operations. The project is nearly complete and we look forward to seeing our first build-operate-maintain contract in action.

On-site energy assessments

We conducted assessments for 30 buildings in the Yukon’s northern and central regions. We expect the final reports in spring 2023.

Building Optimization Program

We launched the Building Optimization Program to improve energy efficiency of building operations. This program includes:

  • an energy awareness campaign for operators and occupants;
  • optimization of building control systems; and
  • small projects that reduce energy use and greenhouse gas emissions.

2022 Premier's Award

Our branch was recognized in the small team category at the 2022 Premier’s Award ceremonies. We’re incredibly proud of this achievement – this motivates us to continue the work that we do!

Read our annual report for more details on:

  • the projects we highlighted above; and
  • other interesting and relevant energy, adaptation, and climate related projects we took on this year.

Our team is excited for what's to come in 2023. We’ll continue our work to:

  • reduce the Yukon’s greenhouse gas emissions; and
  • improve climate resilience of our buildings, roads and fleet vehicles.
