Minister of Health and Social Services Tracy-Anne McPhee has issued the following statement:
"Today, we celebrate Canada Health Care Aide Day and recognize the essential contributions that health care aides make to our health system. Across the Yukon, these dedicated professionals provide critical support to patients in long-term care, home care and community settings. Their work is absolutely critical going beyond physical care, offering emotional support and companionship to some of the Yukon’s most vulnerable citizens.
“In the Yukon, we are very fortunate to have a committed workforce of 58 home support workers in home care and 206 nursing home attendants in long-term care. Their dedication ensures that Yukoners receive high-quality care, whether in the comfort of their homes or in long-term care, and they play a key role in maintaining the well-being and dignity of those they support.
“The Health Care Assistant program at Yukon University plays a vital role in training the next generation of care workers. This one-year certificate program equips students with the knowledge and skills to deliver person-centred care in both community and facility settings. Through classroom learning and hands-on experience, Health Care Assistant graduates become integral members of the health care team, enhancing the independence and quality of life of their clients.
“I would like to express my sincere gratitude to all health care aides for their hard work, commitment and compassion. Your dedication is appreciated not only by the people you care for but also by their families and communities. Thank you for the invaluable service you provide.
“To all Yukoners, I encourage you to take a moment today to recognize the health care aides who make a significant difference in the lives of those they care for. Their contributions are essential to the health and wellbeing of our community, and they deserve our deepest respect and appreciation."
