Warning
Beware of high winds and waves on this narrow lake. The sometimes narrow, winding road can be muddy after rain and pitted in sandy sections.
Site description
  • Many kayakers and canoeists begin their Takhini River day-trips from here, the lake outlet or the Takhini River Campground.
  • Kusawa Territorial Park is popular for boating, fishing and hiking in the nearby mountains.
  • Use binoculars to spot Dall's Sheep on the mountains.
  • If you plan to camp here on a long weekend, have a back-up plan in case the campground is full.
  • The Tlingit name Kùsawu.â means “narrow lake.”
  • The Southern Tutchone name Nekhᶙ Män means “rafting across lake,” speaking to the narrowest point where people crossed.
  • The gate to loop #1 will remain open after service to this campground has ended. Register your stay. You will not need to pay. Bring your own wood and toilet paper and pack out your garbage. The gates to loops #2 and #3 will be locked after service ends.
