Site description
- The Tlingit Chilkat, Southern and Northern Tutchone and Copper River peoples have gathered here to trade for thousands of years.
- The Southern Tutchone name Chetthel Chi means “stone axe handle lake” referring to the copper found nearby.
- Good place to see migrating birds in the fall. Look for moose, beaver, muskrat and otter.
- You can explore Pickhandle Lakes Habitat Protection Area by boat on the Koidern River.
- Gates are closed from 11pm - 7am daily.
