Fire restriction lifted for all regions

Wildland fire crews have made progress containing priority fires across the Yukon, helped by decreased fire behaviour and cooler, wetter conditions. As a result, the level 2 fire restriction put in place on June 27 for the Beaver Creek, Haines Junction, Carmacks, Ross River, Dawson, Mayo and Old Crow fire districts has been lifted.

Normal fire-season burning conditions still apply.

You are legally required to get permission to light an open fire between April 1 and September 30. This includes:

  • lighting an open fire for any purpose other than a campfire, which does not require a permit;
  • burning grass, debris or brush in a burn barrel; and
  • burning on all public and private lands.

If you plan to burn within municipal limits, your local government may also have rules you need to follow. Be careful when using fire; a wildfire can still catch and spread quickly. Do not build campfires larger than needed, and ensure all fires are completely out before leaving them.
