FireSmart pile burning planned Whitehorse area

Wildland Fire Management is planning to burn piles of woody debris from FireSmart work along Mt. Sima Road when low fire danger conditions allow. Burning could begin as early as Thursday, May 30 and could continue over the next few weeks as conditions allow.

Conducting FireSmart work – including burning under low danger conditions – helps reduce fire risk near communities. This work is being done in cooperation with the Whitehorse Fire Department.

These operations are carefully planned and take place during specific weather conditions. Smoke will be visible but crews will do their best to reduce public impact. Wildfire crews will be directly monitoring burning operations with enough resources to fully extinguish piles after the work has been completed.

Wildland Fire Management will announce specific burning operations as they take place on Yukon Protective Services social media and, where appropriate, directly to community members who might see the operation.

Details about all wildfire activity is available on the Wildfire Hub at Yukon.ca/get-wildfire-updates.
