Apply for the Spark Tourism Micro-grant

The Spark Tourism Micro-grant program supports new and emerging entrepreneurs who offer visitor experiences and services in the Yukon. The program helps turn your idea into reality and acts as a catalyst to spark larger future projects.

Successful applicants receive between $1,000 and $5,000.

Who can apply?

You can apply if you’re a Yukon-based:

  • individual;
  • business;
  • First Nations government;
  • First Nation Development entity; or
  • not-for-profit organization.

Eligible activities and projects

The Micro-grant is flexible. You can use it to support various activity and project-related expenses, including but not limited to:

  • bringing a new tourism experience or service to market;
  • research and development;
  • website development and branding;
  • piloting and testing new experiences;
  • capacity building and training;
  • equipment and supplies; and
  • community engagement activities.

Ineligible projects

This is not an opportunity for established entities to expand their existing offerings. The following items are not eligible for funding:

  • Large capital purchases and leases
  • Activities where the applicant is already receiving other funding for the project
  • Projects and activities that take place before the application submission
  • Fundraising activities, awards, sponsorships, or re-funding activities (ie: loans)

How to apply

  1. Before you apply, read the online application and guidelines. Make sure that your project and you or your group are eligible.
  2. Complete the application and prepare any supporting materials.
  3. Submit your completed application.
  4. We recommend you contact an advisor to discuss your project. Email destinationmanagement@yukon.ca.

Application deadlines

The deadline to apply for intake 1 is June 15.

The deadline to apply for intake 2 is October 15.

The deadline to apply for intake 3 is February 15.

Funding decision criteria:

  • Long-term vision and viability;
  • Innovation;
  • Sustainability;
  • Capacity.

An evaluation committee will assess all applications for eligibility and will use an Assessment Matrix. Approved applications will need completion of a transfer payment agreement and project reporting.
