Bursaries support 13 Yukoners’ education in health care

The Government of Yukon has awarded bursaries to 13 Yukon students to support their post-secondary education in health-related fields.

The nursing education bursary was awarded to five Yukoners, including Emerald Gilespie, who will receive $1,500, Alissa Russell and Eleanor Low, who will each receive $2,500 per year, and Sophie Senecal, who will receive $5,000 per year.

The medical education bursary was awarded to four Yukoners, including Logan Godin and Jamila McLeish who will each receive $5,000 per year and Zain Syed, who will receive $7,500 per year.

The health professionals education bursary was awarded to four Yukoners. Eilish Doran will pursue licensed practical nursing and Samantha Wintemute will pursue sonography. Each will receive $2,500 per year. Iris Binger and Arcel Siosan will each receive $5,000 to study social work and recreation, respectively.

The health bursaries will help Yukoners advance their careers, build stronger futures and fill in-demand positions in our health care system.

Congratulations to this year’s recipients. The health bursaries reflect our commitment to hold up the next generation of medical leaders and I am proud to support their continued pursuit of education. Providing avenues for Yukoners to pursue careers in health-related fields is one way we are addressing the pressures placed on Canada’s health system today.

Minister of Health and Social Service Tracy-Anne McPhee
