The Government of Yukon is completing clearing work to help enable the development of new lots in the Whistle Bend area and stormwater site improvements.
The area between Casca Boulevard and Whistle Bend Way behind Whistle Bend Place is being developed to provide public service lots, 15 commercial lots and medium to high-density residential lots, providing the potential for up to 400 units of housing.
This area will be cleared of trees, roots and stumps over the next couple of months to allow ground construction to start in the spring.
As work progresses, the public will be able to pick up fuelwood (cut into six-foot lengths) Monday to Saturday after 5 pm and all day Sunday, starting today. A free Personal Use Fuelwood permit is required. Permit applications can be processed at yukon.ca/en/personal-firewood or in person at the Forest Management Branch office at 91807 Alaska Highway in Whitehorse. People can see a map for the pick up location.
The north and east stormwater depressions, located closer to the Yukon River, will also be cleared of dead trees.
All timber from the stormwater depressions will be removed by the contractor as there are safety concerns with the public accessing the stormwater depressions for timber salvage.
Residents can expect an increase in traffic and equipment in that area during the day from Monday to Saturday until the end of March.
