On September 12, the Government of Yukon hosted the 30th annual Yukon Apprenticeship Excellence Awards, celebrating 60 years of apprenticeship training in the territory. The event highlighted the remarkable growth of skilled trades over the years and reaffirmed the government’s commitment to supporting apprentices and ensuring the continued professionalism of the trades.
These awards are an opportunity to come together and recognize the accomplishments of current apprentices and new journeypersons. They also provide an opportunity to shine a spotlight on the businesses, organizations and mentors who nurture and support the growth of the Yukon’s skilled trades and technology sector.
The ceremony celebrated 47 apprentices with an award of excellence, and 50 new journeypersons with certificates of qualification, with the majority earning Red Seal designations. In addition, industry partners awarded two apprentices for excellence in the trades of sheet metal worker and automotive service technician.
Awards of excellence are presented to individuals who demonstrated outstanding achievement during apprenticeship level or interprovincial Red Seal examinations. Notably, five attendees received multiple awards for their excellence in their registered trade.
This year’s cohort will join the 3,220 journeypersons who the Government of Yukon has certified over the past six decades. Currently, over 500 apprentices are registered in the territory.
With deep pride, I congratulate all apprentices and new journeypersons for their excellence, commitment and accomplishments in the skilled trades. Your hard work and dedication to mastering your craft showcases the incredible talent within our Yukon communities. These awards shine a spotlight on the vital role that businesses, organizations and mentors play in fostering and advancing the Yukon’s trades and technology sector.
