The Government of Yukon wishes Team Yukon ‘Good Luck’ ahead of the Canada 55+ Games

The Government of Yukon extends its best wishes to the athletes, organizing committee, mission staff and cheerleaders representing the territory at the Canada 55+ Games, taking place August 27 to 30 in Quebec City.

The Government of Yukon is proud to support and fund Team Yukon’s participation in this major sporting event, providing $75,000 in funding. Additionally, the Sport and Recreation Branch supports Team Yukon by helping with administration and organizational efforts before, during and after the Games.

A record 162 participants and supporters from across the territory will be proudly sporting the Team Yukon colours as they compete in 12 events.

Don White, a track and field athlete, will be the team’s flagbearer for the opening ceremony along with Banner Carriers Esther and Leo Chasse. Of the travelling participants six are over 80, including one over 90 years old.

Major Games, like the 55+ Games, provide Yukon athletes the opportunity to compete at the national level while inspiring Yukoners to try new sports, face challenges and live healthy active lifestyles.

The Yukon’s Canada 55+ Games participants prove time and again that age is just a number, and our government is proud to support these athletes. Team Yukon is known across the country for supporting and inspiring each other and their fellow competitors. I have no doubt this group will be just as enthusiastic and supportive as in past years. Good luck to everyone in Quebec!

Minister of Community Services Richard Mostyn

Excitement for the 2024 Games has been building over the summer as Team Yukon 55+ has been training hard for the Games in Quebec City. It is the first time Quebec has hosted the Canada 55+ Games and Team Yukon 55+ is ready to do our best in the events while enjoying ourselves with our teammates and meeting new friends. We are looking forward to visiting Quebec City and joining over 2,800 other participants from across Canada.
