Premier Ranj Pillai, Minister of Community Services Richard Mostyn and the Yukon Wildland Fire Management branch have issued the following statement:

“The Government of Yukon and Wildland Fire Management send our deepest condolences to British Columbia today after the deaths of four wildland firefighters in a vehicle accident near Cache Creek, BC.

“Flags at the Jim Smith Building and at Yukon Wildland Fire Management have been set to half-mast in honour of these firefighters. We mourn their loss after a devastating fire season for firefighters in British Columbia and across Canada. We are holding their colleagues and loved ones in our thoughts.

“The Yukon stands side by side with our neighbours in British Columbia as we work to fight wildfires and protect communities.

“On behalf of all Yukoners, thank you to all the responders who have bravely fought wildfires across the country this year. We are grateful beyond words for the risk and sacrifice you take every day to keep people and communities safe.”
