Minister Sandy Silver has issued the following statement:
“On October 17, I provided an update to Yukoners about the progress and development of the 2022–23 Public Accounts.
“As Minister of Finance, I remain committed to keeping Yukoners informed about the preparation of this important document for the Government of Yukon.
“In order to fully and accurately incorporate new accounting standards introduced by the Public Sector Accounting Board, this document will be tabled in the Legislative Assembly later than the legislated October 31 deadline. This additional time has been necessary to ensure that we remain fully compliant, as a jurisdiction, with the latest accounting rules and guidelines.
“We continue to work closely through this process with the Office of the Auditor General (OAG). Once these new standards are incorporated and approved by the OAG, our government intends to table its complete audited financial statements.
“We look forward to sharing a complete, audited account of the government’s finances for the 2022–23 fiscal year with Yukoners in the coming weeks.”

The Public Accounts report the actual financial results for the prior fiscal year and the financial position at the end of that fiscal year.
-
The Office of the Auditor General of Canada is responsible for verifying that the consolidated financial statements of a territory fairly present its financial results in accordance with Canadian public sector accounting standards. The audit is not an opinion on the status of the jurisdiction’s finances.

The Government of Yukon adopted new Public Sector Accounting Standards in 2022–23.
-
These new standards require significantly more detail than was required in previous years.
