Statement from the Minister of Highways and Public Works Nils Clarke on Data Privacy Day

Minister of Highways and Public Works Nils Clarke has issued the following statement:

“Around the globe, Canada and many countries recognize Data Privacy Day, which was first celebrated in Canada on January 28, 2008.

“In an increasingly interconnected world, this day raises awareness of best practices in privacy and personal data protection. With data breaches and cyber threats on the rise, it is critical that we understand the value of protecting our personal information. This day serves as a reminder for both individuals and organizations to be vigilant in safeguarding sensitive information.

“The Government of Yukon supports the priorities of Data Privacy Day in our work every day. We are always seeking ways of enhancing data privacy while upholding principles of transparency and accountability.

“Keeping our information systems and government-held information secure is a key objective of our government. Through our modern Access to Information and Protection of Privacy Act, we have privacy protections incorporated directly into our practices and procedures.

“This week, and always, I encourage everyone to be proactive in managing their online presence, making informed choices about privacy settings and adopting data security practices to minimize the risk of unauthorized access.”
