Statement from Premier Pillai on Diwali

Premier Ranj Pillai has issued the following statement:

“As the festival of Diwali illuminates our lives next week, I extend my warmest wishes to all Yukoners joining the millions of people around the world who will be celebrating.

“Diwali is a major celebration in Hinduism, Sikhism and Jainism. The festival not only lights up homes with the warm glow of diyas but also symbolizes the triumph of light over darkness and good over evil.

“Earlier this month, I had the privilege of attending of attending a Diwali Gala in Vancouver. The event was an incredible opportunity to celebrate with our southern neighbours before the official start of the festival. I look forward to celebrating Diwali this weekend with the Guru Nanak Sikh organization here in the Yukon and encourage all Yukoners to attend local festivities with the Indo-Canadian community.

“As the days get shorter and the nights get longer here in the Yukon, Diwali provides an opportunity to celebrate the light in all of our lives. Let the spirit of Diwali inspire unity and hope, bringing abundant happiness, prosperity and good health to all who celebrate as we move into the year ahead.

“Wishing you all a happy Diwali.”
