Premier Pillai has issued the following statement:
“All Yukoners continue to be shocked and saddened by the news coming out of the Middle East.
“Over the past three weeks, the world has seen unspeakable atrocities occurring against innocent civilians and most tragically, innocent children. This is heartbreaking. The largest attack on Jewish people since the Holocaust and the ongoing blockades and bombardments of the Gaza Strip makes it easy for us to lose hope.
“However, we cannot become cynical. There is still good in the world and there are still people who care. Here in the Yukon, we will continue to love our neighbours, respect people of all faiths and celebrate the diversity in our society that makes the territory such a wonderful place to live.
“The Government of Yukon supports calls for an immediate humanitarian ceasefire and for respect and protection for civilian infrastructure to prevent loss of civilian lives.
“I encourage Yukoners who want to support humanitarian efforts in the Middle East to donate to the Red Cross Red Crescent Movement's Middle East Humanitarian Crisis Appeal. Through donations, the Canadian Red Cross supports the work of its international partners, the Palestine Red Crescent Society (PRCS), operating in the occupied Palestinian Territories of the West Bank and Gaza Strip and Magen David Adom (MDA), operating in Israel.”
