Statement from Premier Pillai on the recipients of the inaugural Yukon Sustainability Awards

Premier and Minister of Economic Development Ranj Pillai has issued the following statement:

“Congratulations to the winners of the inaugural Yukon Sustainability Awards! These awards celebrate Yukon businesses dedicated to building a greener economy. They lead by example, integrating sustainable practices into their business models, while also prioritizing First Nations reconciliation and collaboration. The creation of these awards was a commitment I made in Our Clean Future and we were pleased to see how much interest there was in the first year of the campaign.

“The award recipients were selected by a jury made up of industry, academic and government professionals from across Canada and beyond. Businesses were assessed based on corporate sustainability practices and environmental management systems and how they support the Our Clean Future strategy.

“Receiving the Yukon Small Business Sustainability Award is High Latitude Energy Consulting. High Latitude has provided energy solutions in a variety of Yukon communities, working alongside First Nations development corporations. Their dedication to providing renewable energy to the North has made High Latitude a leader in sustainability and energy independence.

“The recipient of the Yukon Medium to Large Business Sustainability Award is EDI – Environmental Dynamics Inc. EDI provides practical, environmental consulting services, specializing in aquatic and terrestrial sciences, as well as environmental management across western and northern Canada. Here in the Yukon, they have been completing assessments for over 20 years.

“Lastly, Parsons Inc. has been presented the Yukon Regional Business Sustainability Award. Founded in 1944, Parsons Corporation, a digitally enabled solutions provider, is focused on creating the future of the defence, intelligence and critical infrastructure markets. Since 2016 Parsons has been providing care and maintenance services at the Faro Mine site.

“All of the nominees are deserving and I congratulate and thank them for their continued efforts to incorporate environmentally conscious practices into their business models and for the ongoing effects they have in the Yukon.

“These awards were delivered through a partnership between the Government of Yukon and Environmental Careers Organization Canada. This partnership solidifies the territory’s place as a global leader in recognizing businesses with a dedication to sustainability and building a greener economy. I want to thank Environmental Careers Organization Canada for being a tremendous partner in this initiative and for making these awards possible.
