Statement from Premier Ranj Pillai on the Kluane First Nation election

This news release has been updated to reflect the traditional title of Kwänathi inlį (Chief) of Kluane First Nation.

Premier Ranj Pillai has issued the following statement:

“On behalf of the Government of Yukon, I congratulate Robert (Bob) Dickson on his re-election as Kwänathi inlį (Chief) of Kluane First Nation.

“The Government of Yukon values our government-to-government relationship with Kluane First Nation. I look forward to our continued collaboration to advance our shared priorities.

“Kwänathi inlį Dickson signed the Kluane First Nation’s Final and Self-Government Agreements in 2003. During his most recent terms, Kwänathi inlį Dickson then presided over the 20th anniversary celebrations for the same agreements.

“Most recently, Kwänathi inlį Dickson has led key milestones in collaboration with the Yukon government, such as breaking ground for the construction of the new Kêts’ádań Kų̀ school in Burwash Landing, signing a 2024 memorandum of understanding on the long-term conservation and management of healthy sheep populations in southwest Yukon and signing the 2019 Kluane First Nation Personal Income Tax Room Sharing Agreement.

“I am committed to working with Kwänathi inlį Dickson and new Council members to further strengthen our partnership and work together on issues that matter to Kluane First Nation Citizens and all Yukoners.”
