The Government of Yukon continues to monitor the status of the Yukon River in Dawson. Unfortunately, there is still not enough ice to construct a bridge. If the ice becomes thick enough, the Yukon government will make every effort to build a crossing for light-duty vehicles.
Residents are reminded that medical emergency services are always accessible by calling 911. Virtual health appointments and other online health resources are also available including:
- 24/7 health advice by phoning 811;
- Rapid Access Counselling appointments with Mental Wellness and Substance Use Services by phoning 867-456-3838; and
- the Canadian Mental Health Association’s Reach Out Support Line by phoning 1-844-533-3030.
Yukoners who want to find up-to-date information on the status of the ice bridge can visit Yukon.ca/ice-bridge and check 511Yukon.ca.
-
Last year, the bridge was open to light-duty vehicles (10,000 kilograms) on January 5, 2023. Heavy-duty vehicles (40,000 kilograms) could cross the ice bridge on February 2, 2023.
-
The ice jam where the Klondike River and Yukon River meet has made the usual freeze-up take longer than usual.
-
The current ice formation conditions are uncommon, but they have been seen in the past.
