Proposed changes would result in an increase of electoral districts, from the current 19 to 21. These proposed changes are designed to improve representation across the Yukon, accounting for demographic shifts while maintaining the legal principle of voter parity.

Government of Yukon releases final flood hazard maps for Teslin and What We Heard report on Teslin Flood Hazard Maps Engagement

The Government of Yukon has released flood hazard maps that cover Morley Bay, the Village of Teslin, Deadman Creek, Brook's Brook and Johnson's Crossing. These maps provide critical flood information to help the public and all levels of government better adapt to climate change, reduce flood risk and make informed decisions. They are part of a series planned for all 14 flood-prone communities, as committed to in the Our Clean Future climate strategy.

Amendments to the Land Titles Act, 2015, have been introduced

Today, the Government of Yukon introduced the Act of 2024 to Amend the Land Titles Act, 2015  in the Yukon Legislative Assembly.

The proposed amendments to the Land Titles Act, 2015, will provide a legal framework for registration and enforcement of statutory covenants by the Government of Yukon to ensure that affordable housing developments remain affordable over the long term.

Amendments to the Clean Energy Act introduced

On Monday, October 7, the Government of Yukon introduced revised draft amendments to the Clean Energy Act in the Yukon Legislative Assembly that will legislate an intensity-based greenhouse gas emissions reduction target – or mining intensity target – of 45 per cent by 2035 for placer and quartz mining and the post-production and abandoned mine sectors.

As part of the Government of Yukon’s commitment to reducing recruitment barriers and creating culturally safe work environments, the Government of Yukon has released two key documents, including a What We Heard report on Identifying Barriers to Indigenous Recruitment and Retention and the Breaking Trail Together Operational Plan 2023–26.

These documents follow public engagements with Indigenous people to identify and address challenges in the recruitment and retention of Indigenous employees within the Government of Yukon’s public service.

Volunteer firefighters to receive increased honorarium

Volunteer firefighters in unincorporated communities across the Yukon will be compensated more for their volunteer service as of October 1, 2024.

The volunteer honorarium will be increased to $30.74 per hour, up from $22 per hour. Volunteer firefighters will receive honorarium for each hour responding to calls. In addition, the increased honorarium will be provided for each hour of fire service training.
