Find a timber harvest plan for Haines Junction

Timber harvest plans help ensure the sustainable use of forests. These plans cover landscape units ranging from 5,000 hectares to around 300,000 hectares. These identify:

  • areas proposed for forest resource harvesting;
  • where and how timber will be removed; and
  • strategies for minimizing or removing negative environmental impacts on other natural resources.

Description:

This timber harvest plan area is south of Haines Junction. The area covers 11,596 hectares. The total volume of merchantable dead spruce is estimated to be 130,274 cubic metres and the total volume of merchantable spruce (green and dead) is estimated to be 212,369 cubic metres. (10,855.37 KB)

Description:

This timber harvest plan area is north of Haines Junction. The area is accessible from kilometres 1573 or 1589 along the Alaska Highway. The area covers 7,100 hectares with about 77,018 cubic metres of salvageable dead spruce. (5,030.16 KB)

Description:

This timber harvest plan area is south of Haines Junction. The area is along the Alaska Highway at kilometre 1556.5. The area covers 98.8 hectares with up to 700 cubic metres of spruce and aspen for harvesting. (2,106.11 KB)

Description:

This timber harvest plan area is in the Marshall Creek area southeast of Haines Junction. The area is about 2 kilometres south of Pine Lake. The area covers 447.5 hectares. It has an estimated volume of 50,613 cubic metres of wood and includes an estimated 38,267 cubic metres of dead spruce. (22,487.16 KB)

Description:

This timber harvest plan area provides harvesting north of Haines Junction. The plan covers 542 hectares. It has an estimated volume of wood of 61.713 cubic metres and includes about 39,396 cubic metres of dead wood killed by spruce bark beetles. (22,300.55 KB)

Haines Junction community fuel abatement timber harvest plan

Description:

This fuel abatement plan explains the steps that community members can take to reduce the risk of a fire near Haines Junction. Fuel abatement is the removal of forest vegetation such as:

  • standing dead trees;
  • downed dead trees;
  • forest litter;
  • shrubs; and
  • other plants that are ignitable.

This community fuel abatement plan area is along the southern shore of Kluane Lake near Silver City. The priority of this plan is to reduce the risk of forest fires in the area. (8,356.83 KB)
