Find information about the COVID-19 treatment Paxlovid

Paxlovid is a treatment for adults with mild to moderate COVID-19 symptoms. It’s prescribed to reduce the risk of hospitalization.

It helps people who are at a higher risk of developing serious illnesses. This includes people who are severely immunosuppressed.

Paxlovid does not stop you from getting COVID-19 and is not a replacement for vaccination.

To receive coverage for Paxlovid, you must be:

  • enrolled in Pharmacare or Chronic Disease and Disability benefit;
  • moderately immunocompromised, for example, HIV-positive, or in cancer treatment; or
  • severely immunosuppressed (organ transplant, blood cancer).

Talk to your health care provider to discuss your options.

Paxlovid is not suitable for everyone and must be prescribed by a health care provider. At any stage of the process, a health care provider may decide that the treatment is not right for you
