The Government of Yukon launches the five-year review of the Cannabis Control and Regulation Act

The Government of Yukon is pleased to announce the launch of the public engagement phase for the five-year review of the Cannabis Control and Regulation Act. This review will enable Yukoners to share their opinions, experiences and suggestions related to the Act.

The review will help the Government of Yukon understand the evolving landscape of legalization and assess how well the Act is currently meeting the needs of Yukoners.

Prospective proponent identified for development of new Yukon convention centre

This is a joint news release between the Government of Yukon and the Yukon Convention Bureau.

The Government of Yukon is supporting a strong, resilient tourism sector through strategic investments expanding visitor infrastructure. As part of this mandate letter commitment for the Minister of Tourism and Culture, the Government of Yukon is working in partnership with the Yukon Convention Bureau to build a new convention centre in Whitehorse.

Update on 2022–23 Public Accounts

Minister of Finance Sandy Silver has issued the following statement: 

“The Government of Yukon is currently working towards tabling its 2022–23 Public Accounts, which reflect a full accounting of the government’s spending for that fiscal year.

“The Public Accounts provide accountability to Yukoners for spending decisions made during the budget cycle. They allow Yukoners to compare the estimates from budgets with the actual amounts spent over the course of the fiscal year. These numbers also help guide future decision making within the government.

Premier Pillai meets with Arctic and Northern Policy Framework Leadership Committee

Today, Premier Pillai joined members of the Arctic and Northern Policy Framework Leadership Committee for the table’s fourth annual meeting, held this year in Whitehorse.

The meeting was co-hosted by Council of Yukon First Nations Grand Chief Peter Johnston and Minister of Northern Affairs, Minister responsible for Prairies Economic Development Canada and Minister responsible for the Canadian Northern Economic Development Agency Dan Vandal.

Government of Yukon tables a New Technical Amendments Act

The Government of Yukon tabled Bill No. 34 in the Yukon Legislative Assembly today. The Bill includes changes to the Yukon’s Income Tax Act, Yukon Government Carbon Price Rebate Act and Financial Administration Act.

The Technical Amendments (Finance) Act 2023 brings several pieces of the Yukon’s legislation up to date or addresses unclear language and other minor updates.
